Detroit Boil Water Advisory to Last for Days
FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. (AP) — Officials say the earliest that a boil water advisory could be lifted for several suburban Detroit communities is Friday evening.
The Great Lakes Water Authority gave the update Tuesday on Monday evening’s break of a 48-inch (122-centimeter) diameter pipe in Farmington Hills that serves customers in western portions of Oakland County.
The water authority says it’s working with community water departments to isolate water systems from the damaged portion of main in order to begin repairs. Officials say they expect to have a replacement piece of pipe installed by Wednesday night and water quality tests will take place afterward.
The water authority says, however, the timeline could change.
Wixom, Walled Lake, Commerce Township and parts of Novi are expected to have low to no water pressure as repairs take place.
