Residents Upset by Plans for Sewer Line Under Old Cemetery

LOUISVILLE, Neb. (AP) — Plans for a new sewage line under an old pioneer cemetery have upset some residents of an eastern Nebraska community.

Louisville (LOO’-iss-vihl) is putting in the line to serve Platte River State Park, which sits on the river west of town.

Longtime resident Kari Reveillace told Omaha television station KETV that she didn’t know the people buried at what’s referred to as the Border cemetery. She also says that if society’s progress means “we can go through and disturb cemeteries, I would say human decency has receded back to the Dark Ages.”

Louisville Mayor Roger Behrns says he, too, cares about preserving the cemetery but also thinks the project is necessary for the city’s future. He says the state needs a sewer system to expand the park.
