Indiana Takes Action Against County for Sewer Pollution
NEW CASTLE, Ind. (AP) — The state of Indiana has taken action against Henry County after complaints of sewage polluting a creek, residential properties and the grounds of a swimming pool.
The Star Press reports (http://tspne.ws/2sCOuC1 ) the Indiana Department of Environmental Management filed a notice of violation after inspectors saw sewage flowing in the White Estates subdivision in New Castle. During that Feb. 17 incident, sewage was flowing from a storm sewer, across several properties and into Eliot Run Creek, which flows into the Big Blue River.
In March and April inspectors saw a clogged sewer line and signs sanitary sewers had backed up and overflowed near the subdivision’s pool.
County Commissioner Kim Crock says the county is working with the city to try to find a resolution. Cronk says “funding is always the issue.”
