Cable ONE Business Eyes Mississippi for Piranha Fiber Launch

Cable ONE Business has announced it is currently considering Mississippi for its next launch of Piranha Fiber – Ferociously Fast Internet, which offers 2 gigabits per second of symmetrical internet speed.

“Piranha Fiber would be the first 2 gigabit shared fiber optic internet service available to businesses in Mississippi,” said Chris Boone, Vice President of Business Services for Cable ONE. “While most national fiber providers are offering 1 gigabit service, we are the first to offer 2 gigabits. This would put our markets in Mississippi on the map as some of the first 2 gigabit cities in the country.”

Piranha Fiber is currently available in select markets, including Fargo, N.D. and Norfolk, Neb.

“Cable ONE has invested more than $75 million in Mississippi over the past five years on network upgrades and enhancements in order to bring the latest technology and fastest speeds to our customers,” Boone said. “This makes Mississippi an ideal fit for our next launch. As part of our ongoing investment and with the launch of this new service, we would be extending our plant to previously unserviceable areas in Mississippi, while contributing to the economic development of the state.”

The new internet service is delivered over a Passive Optical Network, which combines the most favorable attributes from coax and fiber. Benefits include service delivered over an extremely reliable fiber-based architecture and shared bandwidth, which allows Cable ONE Business to spread its infrastructure costs over a broader customer base and offer the service at a price that’s affordable for most small businesses.
