Water Main Break Leaves 85 Pennsylvania Homes Without Service

ABINGTON, Pa. (AP) — A water main break has left 85 homes without service in Pennsylvania.

Officials say a 16-inch main broke around 2 p.m. in Abington Monday. The Abington Township Police Deputy Chief says thousands of gallons of water rushed into a nearby neighborhood, forcing the evacuation of several homes.

A spokeswoman for Aqua Pennsylvania says a water wagon has been dispatched to provide water for affected customers. Aqua crews are currently working on repairing the main, which was scheduled to be replaced in 2018. The main was built in 1911.

Once the water service is restored, residents will be under an advisory to boil their water until Aqua officials declare it is safe.
