Pennsylvania American Water Begins Two Water Main Upgrade Projects

Pennsylvania American Water has announced work is underway on the following construction projects:

  • Upgrading more than 3,500 feet of water main in Clarks Summit and South Abington Township to improve reliability for customers, reduce service disruptions and increase water flows for firefighting. The cost of the system improvements, which replace water main dating back to 1950, is approximately $550,000.
  • Upgrading approximately 6,500 feet of water main in several Luzerne County communities to improve reliability for customers, reduce service disruptions and increase water flows for firefighting. The cost of the system improvements, which replace water main dating back to 1906, is nearly $1.3 million.

As part of the Clarks Summit and South Abington Township project, starting this week, crews will be replacing existing six-inch cast iron water mains with new six- and eight-inch ductile iron pipe along the following streets:

  • Sunset Street
  • Hilltop Drive
  • Sleepy Hollow Lake
  • Lakeside Drive
  • Driftwood Drive

As part of the Luzerne County project, contractors recently began replacing four- and six-inch cast-iron water main with new eight-inch ductile iron pipe in the following areas:

  • Plymouth
  • Hanover Township
