Volvo Tailors Support for Customers’ Carbon Reduction Goals
Volvo Tailors Support for Customers’ Carbon Reduction Goals
In a shared commitment to a carbon-free future, Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) is making it easier for customers to reach their own carbon reduction goals or take the first step on their sustainability journey.
Taking advantage of the breadth of its existing solutions and services, Volvo CE has developed a step-by-step approach with the CO2 Reduction Program that offers a practical solution, tailored to fit customers’ needs.
Designed to be easily integrated into a customer’s plans, while maintaining required levels of profitability and productivity, the CO2 Reduction Program is based on four simple steps:
- Insight – To understand where the customer currently is in terms of carbon emissions, Volvo uses telematics data to determine the CO2 footprint for all machines on site – no matter the brand.
- Analyze – Volvo CE experts analyze the customer’s machine data and conduct a site study to understand how the material flow, fleet composition, and operator behavior affect the emissions on their site(s). Volvo CE then illustrates where improvements can be made and what actions need to be taken to reduce CO2 per ton.
- Improve – Volvo CE helps the customer to implement the improvements with key services such as Eco Operator training and other efficiency services or plan a smooth transition towards electric machines.
- Sustain – At this stage customers will already start seeing the rewards of their efforts, both economically and environmentally. However, the final step is for Volvo CE to support in sustaining these efforts and looking for new ways to reduce emissions even further in the future.
This customer program is one of many initiatives devised by Volvo CE towards the needed transformation within the construction industry. The company has set an industry-leading target to reach net zero value chain greenhouse gas emissions by 2040 – with a 50-percent reduction in CO2 emissions across its own operations and 30-percent reduction across product use as early as 2030. Investment in Sewer AI Spurs Next Generation of Water Infrastructure Diagnostics
SewerAI, a global leader in the use of artificial intelligence and cloud computing for sewer condition assessment, secured investment led by Emerald Technology Ventures, a Zurich, Switzerland-based venture capital firm.
The investment comes amid a burst of energy toward infrastructure modernization, following the recent passage of a major funding bill in the US that is expected to funnel billions to desperately needed water improvement projects.
Based in Walnut Creek, Calif., SewerAI leverages its inspection management platform and AI Computer Vision tools to enhance sewer infrastructure diagnostics, lowering costs and streamlining operations.
With millions of feet of sewer data under management for municipalities, environmental services contractors and engineering firms, SewerAI is poised to revolutionize infrastructure assessment and improve environmental health for people everywhere.
SewerAI intends to add headcount to satisfy growing demand for its services, with ambitious goals to inspect 25 million feet of sewer and storm pipe and identify at least 10,000 undiscovered major structural defects in 2022, according to CEO and co-founder Matthew Rosenthal.
In addition to the investment funding, Emerald intends to contribute to SewerAI by leveraging its expertise and extensive global network of companies and water utilities working to solve the hardest technical challenges in sustainable and green infrastructure.
“SewerAI provides technology that triples sewer inspection productivity, enabling utilities to address aging infrastructure and compliance cost-effectively,” said Dr. Helge Daebel, water-fund head at Emerald, who will join SewerAI’s board following this funding round.
“Its solutions are truly game-changing, and we’re excited about its prospects in a space ripe for disruption.”

Available in both canopy or cab configurations, these machines are designed to take on even the toughest of jobs: loading trucks, placing pipes, digging trenches, moving materials and tearing up asphalt.
Mid-size excavator models include 75G, with the cab configuration, and 85G with the engcon tiltrotator.
Offering lightweight, agile machines, with heavy-duty durability, the compact category this year covers the 35G compact excavator, 317G compact track loader, and 318G skid steer loaders.
The 2022 “Own It” program runs through October 31 and is available only at participating dealers.
