REHAB SPOTLIGHT: Laterals Rehab & Cutters

Avanti

Leaking service laterals and lateral connections are a source of significant groundwater infiltration into collection systems. According to the EPA, as much as 60 percent of overflow comes from leaking service connections. Injection grouts such as AV-100® Chemical Grout are a cost-effective, long-term solution to eliminating infiltration in structurally sound laterals and lateral connections.

Using remote packer equipment that extends up the lateral, AV-100 is forced under pressure through defects into the surrounding soil, forming a grout/soil matrix that is impermeable to infiltration. After CIPP lining, injection grouts are often used to stop infiltration that occurs at the lateral reinstatement.

CUES

(800) 327-7791, cuesinc.com

CUES’ small and large Currahee cutters are specifically designed to reinstate wastewater service laterals, remove protruding taps, and brush-finish existing cuts. Functioning in a range of 5.25- through 36-inch pipe, the cutters are equally effective in CIPP or fold-and-form liners and can be installed on any CCTV manufacturer’s truck-mounted system.

In addition, a new 1.9-horsepower air motor for the small Currahee cutter line delivers increased power and productivity, and a smoother cut when operating in 6- to 12-inch relined pipe.

For use with Kangaroo air-motors, service kits are available for retrofitting, or regular maintenance intervals on, existing motors.

HammerHead

(800) 331-6653, hammerheadtrenchless.com

The redesigned Bluelight LED CIPP lining system for laterals and small drainpipes is the most advanced light-curing system available. The innovative technology alleviates the time pressures of other CIPP systems. A specially formulated resin only cures under light in the “blue” wavelength, giving installers a significantly longer working time between liner wet-out and curing.

Once installed, the automated curing system pulls the LED light head through the liner, curing the resin almost instantly – up to five times faster than other methods. For example, a 50-foot sewer line can be fully cured in under 10 minutes, versus hours.

IMS Robotics

The proven features of the IMS Robotics MICRO series, combined with even better flexibility in pipe bends and a range of use in even smaller pipes, distinguish the MICRO S automatic from its competition.

With its powerful cutting motor, the house connection cutter removes any deposits and is a reliable tool when opening and reopening lateral connections after liner rehabilitation – quickly and effectively.

In conjunction with the axial feed, the flexibility in pipe bends ensures that the cutter can reach any location. Also, the color camera with LED illumination guarantees exact positioning.

LightRay

(866) 336-2568, lightrayyinversion.com

LightRay Lateral Inversion (LRI) System is the most advanced entrant to the UV-cast inversion liner market. The simple design allows complete operator control over the process and closely resembles traditional, ambient-cure inversion methods.

The proprietary light train, which incorporates cold LED lights that require no heat to cast the liner, can accomplish throughput up to 6.3-feet-per-minute of casting. Provided in a standard casting length of 50 feet, the light train operates on a low-voltage DC platform and is internally protected to accommodate bends in pipes up to 90 degrees.

LMK Technologies

(815) 433-1275, lmktechnologies.com

LMK Technologies’ T-Liner is a one-piece, homogenous main and lateral CIPP connection liner that is ASTM F2561-20 compliant. It has a uniform wall thickness and can be installed with either polyester or epoxy resin.

Used with our Insignia compression gasket-sealing technology, T-Liner provides a verifiable, non-leaking system. These compression gaskets are embedded between the host pipe and the T-Liner, and are compatible with all pipe types, including polyethylene.

LOGIBALL Inc.

(800) 246-5988, logiball.com

From the industry’s foremost authority on lateral grouting, LOGIBALL innovates processes and equipment for testing and sealing service laterals and connections to mainline pipe.

With access from the mainline, LOGIBALL lateral packers air test the 4- or 6-inch residential pipe, 8-inch commercial pipe. Then, low pressure injects a two-component grout into joints and defects, followed by a final pressure test to validate the seal. Lateral packers are manufactured to the desired length, from 26 inches to 39 feet.

“Together better” – LOGIBALL and Prime Resins are sister companies creating better solutions in the worldwide collection system for underground utility contractors.

MaxLiner USA

(877) 426-5948, maxlinerusa.com

MaxLight, an LED UV-cure unit and non-styrenated resin system, optimizes CIPP operations by dramatically increasing work efficiency. Curing does not begin until resin is exposed to the finely calibrated UV light, allowing pre-impregnated liner assembly at the shop or onsite, and eliminating pot life concerns, to enable several installations in a single day.

Choose from an array of liners and CalTubes, specific to existing pipe conditions and configurations.

Single-component resins, uniquely formulated for UV-light curing, offer:

  • No mixing
  • No styrene, ultra-low odor
  • No waste
  • Superior mechanical properties
  • Rapid cure times
  • Excellent wet-out capability
  • Compliance with all applicable ASTM standards

Perma-Liner Industries

(866) 336-2568, perma-liner.com

Perma-Lateral System, from Perma-Liner Industries, is the best-selling, small-diameter pipeline rehabilitation system in North America. Designed for 2- to 8-inch pipe diameters, the system can be installed through clean-outs or open-end pipes. Only one access point is required.

The liner can be ambient cured in 3 hours or steam cured in as little as 20 minutes. In addition, 2- to 4-inch diameter pipes can be rehabilitated in lengths up to 120 feet or more, while 5- to 8-inch diameter pipes can be rehabilitated up to 600 feet or more in length.
