UCT Offers New Elements New Date
Summertime. Safer time.
The Underground Construction Technology International Conference & Exhibition (UCT) has made a bold move, with you in mind. With your health and safety of paramount concern, UCT show management has taken the opportunity to hold the conference July 13–15, 2021, at the Music City Center in Nashville, Tenn.
Moving out of the first quarter when the pandemic would still be a major concern, was the number one reason for the new date. Summertime is proving to be a safer time for large, in-person meetings. And, summertime in Nashville is a great destination, offering affordable entertainment and much needed family fun.
UCT provides a forum for the underground utility industry to learn and network. The program contains interactive presentations, panel discussions, and pre-conference workshops, equipping you with practical solutions for the construction and rehabilitation of the underground utility infrastructure. Educational tracks cover sewer, water, gas utilities, horizontal directional drilling, and much more. The entire program qualifies for Professional Development Hours (PDHs) and Continuing Education Units (CEUs)!
UCT 2021 will kick off on Monday, July 12, with a pre-show workshop on Inflow & Infiltration, a series of trenchless technology training schools hosted by the Center for Underground Infrastructure Research and Education at the University of Texas at Arlington, and a Pipeline Assessment & Certification Program (PACP) Recertification Course.
This year’s show will feature the inaugural UtiliTech Conference. Co-located with UCT, UtiliTech is a technology and information event designed for the gas utility industry.
Sewer and water professionals will enjoy the CIPP 50th anniversary celebration, recognizing the first liner installation and honoring pioneers of the cured-in-place pipe industry. Horizontal directional drilling professionals will honor two industry innovators during the HDD Hall of Fame reception. Learn more about these elements and the entire program on the next few pages of this section. Updates will be available at UCTonline.com.
UCT may be later in the year but our commitment to deliver all the popular elements–plus new events – will be in full force. The summer date makes it safer for you to enjoy and benefit from the entire package: an exhibit hall with equipment and technologies to experience first-hand, networking functions where you can exchange ideas with other like-minded professionals, and a quality education program taught by some of the best minds in the industry. It all makes UCT the right show at the right time.
We are looking forward to seeing you in Nashville this summer!

New and Pre-show Specialty Training
The gas utility industry will benefit from a new component to UCT, the UtiliTech Conference. Presented by Underground Construction and Gas Utility, UtiliTech features a dedicated education track on Tuesday and Wednesday that will focus on high-tech solutions and information for natural gas utility management, operations, and supervisory personnel. It is an interactive forum to learn about emerging and enhanced technologies and equipment, share operational perspectives and explore issues that impact the gas utility market.
Registration for the two-day UtiliTech program is $195. Learn more at UCTonline.com/UtiliTech-registration.
Discover what is working in Infiltration & Inflow (I&I), and why, during the reimagined I&I ElimiNATION workshop on Monday, July 12. Virtually every sewer system has some I&I, which is excess water that flows into sewer pipes from groundwater and stormwater. It is considered excessive when it’s the cause of overflows or bypasses, or if the cost to transport and treat it exceeds the cost to eliminate it.
In this afternoon workshop, causes and consequences of I&I will be examined, and corrective actions will be presented. Get tips from a consultant on being proactive. Hear about the cost and consequences from a state regulator’s perspective, and an engineer will present the design and value of implementing a plan.
The I&I ElimiNATION workshop is sponsored by Avanti International, Cretex Specialty Products, Madewell Products Corporation and Michels Corporation. The cost to attend is
$25 and includes a networking reception immediately following the workshop. To register for the I&I ElimiNATION workshop, visit UCTonline.com.
Another pre-show specialty session is the Pipeline Assessment & Certification Program (PACP) Recertification Course. PACP is the North American standard for pipeline defect identification and assessment, providing consistency to the methods in which pipeline conditions are identified, evaluated and managed. The goal of PACP is to have pipeline system owners create a comprehensive database to properly identify, plan, prioritize, manage and renovate their pipelines based on condition evaluation.
In this course, you will recertify your current PACP certification. The PACP Recertification Course includes one day of training and the latest version of the manual. The cost to attend is $400. Registration for this course is subject to approval. For details and to register, email rodthorn@swbell.net.
The Center for Underground Infrastructure Research & Education (CUIRE), at the University of Texas at Arlington, will hold its 19th Annual Pipeline and Trenchless Technology Training and Certification Schools in conjunction with UCT on Monday and Tuesday. This year’s program includes an Advanced HDD School, Geotechnical School, Pipe School, as well as half-day Pipeline Inspection School, Microtunneling and Pilot Tube schools.
Each half-day school qualifies for 0.4 CEU/4 PDHs, one-day schools qualify for up to 0.8 CEUs/8 PDHs and 1.5 days qualify for up to 1.2 CEUs/12 PDHs through the University of Texas at Arlington. For more information on these sessions and to register, contact CUIRE at (817) 272-9177 or cuire@uta.edu.
