Brown and Caldwell to Lead Water Treatment Facility Improvements
Brown and Caldwell has been engaged by the city of Boulder, Colo., to provide professional engineering and design services at the city’s Betasso Water Treatment Facility (BWTF).
Built in 1964 and significantly renovated in 2018, BWTF is Boulder’s primary drinking water treatment facility, with a capacity of 40 million gallons per day (MGD). Located in the foothills west of Boulder, the conventional facility treats surface water from North Boulder Creek and Barker Reservoir.
Findings from the city’s 2019 Asset Inventory & Maintenance Project highlighted various aging and critical components at BWTF requiring capital repair and replacement, regular maintenance, and improvements to meet the City’s high-level service goals.
Upon completion, the facility will be equipped with twin 20-million-gallon-per-day treatment trains that allow major infrastructure to be out of commission for future maintenance or emergencies, without service interruptions, while continuing to meet increasingly stringent regulations.
Construction is scheduled for completion by spring 2024.

Vortex Taps FerraTex as Strategic Reseller of VeriCure CMS
The Vortex Companies Products Division has established an agreement with FerraTex Solutions, a leading North American provider of cured-in-place-pipe (CIPP) liners, equipment and wet-out services, to sell its patented VeriCure Curing Monitor System (CMS).
“This is a big step in creating awareness and promoting the benefits of VeriCure to CIPP installers throughout North America and beyond,” said Mike Vellano, CEO of the Vortex Companies. “Not only will it save contractors time and money, VeriCure significantly improves and validates the quality of the CIPP curing process.”
As an added incentive, FerraTex will extend its standard workmanship warranty, on its pressure liners, liners utilizing performance resin, and CIPP liners 24 inches and up, from 12 to 24 months, if purchased and cured with VeriCure.
Patented in the United States in 2012, VeriCure CMS was developed to continuously monitor a CIPP liner’s cure temperature during the installation process. The VeriCure brand and CMS technology were acquired by Vortex in January 2021. Since that time, Vortex has made refinements to the system components and process and improved technical field support for the product line.
