CUIRE, NASSCO Continue Strategic Partnership

Formed in 1976, NASSCO Inc.’s mission is to set standards for the assessment, maintenance and rehabilitation of underground infrastructure and to ensure the continued acceptance and growth of trenchless technologies. NASSCO is also focused on building awareness of the aging underground infrastructure and providing viable solutions, through education, technical resources, and industry advocacy. As a 501 c (6) not-for-profit trade association, NASSCO advocates fairly and equally for its members, which include contractors, public agencies, consulting engineers, suppliers and others aligned to the underground infrastructure industry.

The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) is a state institution of higher education established under the laws of the state of Texas. UTA established its Center for Underground Infrastructure Research and Education (CUIRE) in 2002, with the goal of promoting research, development and training in underground infrastructure construction and renewal technologies.

Together, NASSCO and CUIRE promote the need for quality assessment, maintenance and rehabilitation standards to sustain wastewater collection systems, as well as for thoroughly trained, qualified and certified practitioners, as critical components of the public health infrastructure.

Specifically, CUIRE and NASSCO:

  • Work together to educate collection system practitioners on infrastructure rehabilitation and condition assessment through training venues such as webcasts, workshops, manuals and technical presentations at conferences offered by either organization.
  • Jointly encourage standardization of pipeline, manhole, and lateral assessment training and certification.
  • Jointly encourage standardization of training for proper design and installation methods of trenchless technologies.
  • Jointly promote NASSCO’s Sewer History Exhibit and its role in the great advancements made over time.
  • Collaborate on specific projects and activities, such as the recently concluded CIPP Styrene Emissions Study (Phase 1).
