Mag 6 Locating System Proves to be Versatile, Powerful, Easy-to-Use
Underground Magnetics, a new company backed by more than 70 years of combined experience, is changing the way companies buy HDD locating systems.
“We produce a powerful locating system at a very competitive price point,” said Mike Young, president, who has more than 30 years of experience, including helping to design some of the first HDD rigs offered to the industry. “We realize that large color screens are nice to look at, but at the end of the day, seeing pipe out of both ends of your job are what make the difference. Underground Magnetics is delivering on its core philosophy of offering no-nonsense locating systems that are not only powerful, but simple to run.
Mag 6, for example, is the most versatile, powerful and easy-to-use walkover receiver to date. With an easy-to-use interface, the receiver has the ability to go deeper than ever before – up to 190 feet with the Echo 3 extended range transmitter. Even with the standard Echo 2S transmitter, Mag 6 gives a depth of up to 160 feet, Young explained.
It also easily switches back and forth between walkover mode and bore-to mode and can change both frequencies and power modes down hole.
“This versatility is a real advantage when it comes to the everyday active interferences that effect HDD locating systems,” said Alex Harris, owner operator of AH Underground in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Another advantage is the simplicity of the bore-to feature. “I can set my Mag 6 30 feet or more out front and drill to it with absolute confidence in where the head is and how deep it is,” Harris added.
Proof that the locator is easy to use came when Harris convinced his wife to fill in for a crew member who called-in sick on a time-sensitive job. “She was hesitant at first, but it only took her a few minutes to get the hang of it,” he said. “Together, with the bore-to feature, we finished the job on time and perfectly on course.”
