TWDB Approves $22.97 Million For Water, Wastewater Systems
The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved financial assistance totaling $22,970,000 for water and wastewater system projects. Of this funding, $4.6 million was approved for rural projects.
$2 million to the City of Gorman (Eastland County) to replace approximately 25,000 linear feet of piping and replace existing water meters with electronic readers. The project will help reduce water loss within the system.
$18.37 million to the City of Abilene (Taylor and Jones counties) to replace approximately 43,500 water meters with automated readers that will include leak detection capabilities. The new meters will allow the City’s customers to access their water account information and allow the City to better track its water resources. The City anticipates saving approximately 65 million gallons of water per year from the new meter installation.
$300,000 to the City of Paradise (Wise County) for improvements at its elevated storage tank facilities.
$2.3 million to the Greater Texoma Utility Authority on behalf of the City of Gunter (Grayson County) to construct a new wastewater treatment plant. The City will also perform an inflow and infiltration study of its wastewater system and develop an asset management plan.
The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional planning, and preparing the state water plan for the development of the state’s water resources. It administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agricultural water conservation projects.
