Sanexen Water Successfully Completes Lincoln Tunnel Repairs
Sanexen Water Inc. successfully completed major repairs in the Lincoln Tunnel in New York City with minimal impact.
When the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey began planning repairs and upgrades to Route 495 and the Lincoln Tunnel, one of the requirements was to repair two cast iron cement-encased water main sections at each end of the tunnel that supply water for fire prevention. Sanexen Water, part of Logestic Corporation and one of Canada’s leading providers of environmental solutions including site remediation, manufacturing of woven hoses and trenchless structural rehabilitation of underground water mains, was selected for the job.
Over the past 18 years, Sanexen has developed considerable expertise and an impressive intellectual property portfolio with respect to its innovative Aqua-Pipe technology for the structural rehabilitation of underground water mains. Installing more than 1,600 km of its Aqua-Pipe Trenchless Structural CIPP Technology in over 350 cities in North America, Sanexen applied the method to successfully repair the Lincoln Tunnel’s aging water mains while other construction work was in progress.
“A lot of planning goes into a project like this,” said Benoit Côté, president of Sanexen Water. “We have to ensure all the pieces are in place so that, for example, when they close the Lincoln Tunnel at night for construction work, our trucks get in there and work on installing the Aqua-Pipe liner to repair the watermain. Our goal, especially for a project located on a major urban thoroughfare such as this one, is to work closely with contractors like J Fletcher Creamer, which performs excavation work, to allow us access to the pipe entry, so that our experts can work safely and efficiently to get the job done.”
