National Gas Rodeo Promotes Skills, Teamwork

Organized by the Midwest Energy Association and sponsored by CASE Construction Equipment, the 2017 National Gas Rodeo was held at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds in Denver, CO on Sept, 25.

The event drew more than 320 spectators and 54 participating teams from utility companies across the United States. Two- and four-person teams showcased their unique industry skills in a series of competitive events focused on efficient performance using construction quipment and other tools of the trade.

For  2017, the overall Rodeo champion in the two-person team category was “Lil’ Gas House Gang” from Laclede Gas Company in Spire-Laclede, MO – its third back-to-back win, with the first two being in the four-person category. Winning the four-person category was “Intense Ignition” from Missouri Gas Energy of Kansas City, MO.

Qualifying events include a timed meter set, service installation, pipe cut and wild card event, which is different each year. The final relay is a sequence of six events: truck and trailer back up, egg pickup with a backhoe bucket, pipe squeeze, mini excavator event and regulator bypass. The team with the best overall relay time wins.
