Real Business in the Big Easy

In the “lazy days” of summer, you’re probably not thinking about January 2018, but we are!

A mere five months away, preparations for Underground Construction magazine’s 23rd Annual Underground Construction Technology International Conference & Exhibition (UCT) are kicking into high gear. UCT will be in New Orleans, LA at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, Jan. 30-Feb 1.

We’re busy filling booths with fantastic exhibitors, both returning and new ones; we’re launching an aggressive attendee communications plan; our committees are working to finalize the educational program; and registration will open in the next two months.

We’re getting down to business, because UCT is the event where REAL BUSINESS gets done. The three-day program features many networking opportunities, top-notch education and a lively exhibit floor. Unlike events that offer a smidgen of a rehabilitation technique or focus on one type of technology, UCT encompasses the entire industry – trenchless and open-cut utility pipe construction and rehabilitation — so there is something for every business servicing the underground utility infrastructure industry.

This first look at UCT 2018 gives you a peak at what you can look forward to.

Education is key at UCT. The main, or primary program, runs Tuesday Jan. 30, through Thursday, Feb. 1, and qualifies for up to 25 PDHs (Professional Development Hours). CEUs (Continuing Education Units) are available, too. The Center for Underground Infrastructure Research & Education (CUIRE) is partnering with UCT again to bring half-day Trenchless Technology Inspector Training and Certification Schools to you. CUIRE Schools will be Monday, Jan. 29 and Tuesday, Jan.30. Additional industry-sponsored training seminars are in the works and will be announced soon.

Alongside the educational opportunities, you can view the very equipment and technologies you learned about in the sessions by visiting the exhibit hall. There, you can network with companies representing a wide range of categories including: horizontal directional drilling, pipe bursting, piercing tools, open-cut equipment, pipe ramming, microtunneling, CIPP, grout, leak detection, locators, liners, pumps, tools and much, much more.

The UCT Exhibit Hall allows you an up-close examination of equipment and services with experts on hand to answer all questions and explain products in detail. You can even buy equipment on the spot. You will receive a glimpse of old-school ideas for pipe rehabilitation using new-school technologies in the walk-through sewer pipe exhibit known as the RehabZone.

Rehabilitating and constructing the underground utility infrastructure is your business. UCT is where the elements come together, making you more productive during the span of one business trip. Think of UCT as your business partner. A place to learn, and network – and grow your business.

Doing Business At UCT

In an increasingly challenging business environment, UCT offers the most powerful, productive platform to connect and communicate with new and existing customers. Exhibiting at UCT puts you alongside industry-leading companies that showcase their products and services to attendees from a cross-section of the underground utility infrastructure industry. UCT 2017 attracted a diverse audience of 2,200 at this past January’s event. They came (and continue to attend) to discover the latest in all types of equipment and technologies necessary for the installation of underground piping and conduit infrastructure, as well as rehabilitating systems in dire need of repair.

Exhibitors see the value of participating in UCT – it’s the only event that focuses on the total underground construction market (sewer, water, gas distribution, telecom, electric grid) and it’s where the industry comes together to learn and network. More than half of UCT attendees are responsible for specifying products or making the final purchasing decision.
