Heavy Equipment Competition in Pennsylvania

Volvo Construction Equipment sponsored and partnered with SkillsUSA on the Heavy Equipment Competition in Pennsylvania.

SkillsUSA is a national career and technical training organization that encourages young Americans to pursue skilled professions in the manufacturing industry.
Nine high school students participated in the competition, which is part of the SkillsUSA State Championships. Each participant was required to complete tasks ranging from identifying components and controls, and inspecting machines, to writing service summaries and operating virtual bulldozers and excavators.

Representatives from Volvo CE, one of its dealers (Highway Equipment and Supply), and a customer (Allan Myers) served as judges and donated equipment for the competition.

“As a leader in the construction equipment industry, it is very important for Volvo CE to support future generations of skilled workers,” said Chuck Wood, vice president, Human Resource Management and Administration. “Competitions like this not only help students get excited about a future in our industry, but also help bridge the current skills gap.”
