Volvo Creates Special Edition Golden Hauler

Volvo Construction Equipment celebrated 50 years of articulated hauler production by creating a special edition “gold hauler” and touring it across North America during 2016.

The gold hauler is identical to the company’s standard A40G, 40-ton model, except for its unique, $15,000 paint job. While traveling to different Volvo dealerships, the tour also represented a partnership with SkillsUSA, a career and technical organization for high-school students, and with local college-level technical programs.

“We invited students to come and check out the machine, tour the dealership, and talk to technicians and sales representatives about what a career in our industry is like,” said Meg Dameron of Volvo.

The tour ended with the gold hauler being auctioned off at 2017 ConExpo in Las Vegas by Ritchie Bros. Proceeds from the winning bid by will go to SkillsUSA and its counterpart Skills Canada.

SkillsUSA, with more than 300,000 members nationwide, provides opportunities for career and technical education students to enhance their knowledge and skills, and prepare for leadership through the development of workplace, personal and technical skills.
