DTE Announces Plans to Invest $1.4 Billion In Natural Gas Pipeline Infrastructure

Over the next five years, DTE Gas plans to invest $1.4 billion into its Michigan natural gas pipeline infrastructure in an effort to maintain the safety and reliability of the system, while simultaneously striving to achieve affordability for its residential and business customers.

The plans include the modernization of its cast iron and steel main lines with fresh, durable material, as well as the installation of new lines to homes and businesses. DTE is currently on track to replace more than 100 miles of gas main lines, an increase from the 2015 total replacement of 80 miles. The company plans to continue acceleration in the pace of replacement, eventually doubling the current program.

“Replacing older gas lines with the latest in pipeline material ensures that our natural gas system remains safe for our customers,” said Mark Stiers, DTE Gas president and chief operating officer.
In addition, upgrades will be made at compressor stations to ensure continuation of reliable and uninterrupted delivery to all customers.

The declining natural gas costs, combined with operational efficiency upgrades, will allow DTE Gas to continue offering affordability to its customer base, Stiers added. www.newlook.dteenergy.com.
