Companies Pioneer Pipeline Safety Leadership Program Focused On Accountability, Culture
Caterpillar, in collaboration with PipeLine Machinery International, Inc. (PLM) and an assembly of industry-leading companies, announces the Pipeline Safety Leadership Program, a first-of-its-kind training course specifically targeting pipeliners. The program aims to support the industry as it shifts from traditional to world-class safety management through a focus on personal accountability for safety and industry prevention.
Caterpillar was joined in the development of the program vision and production funding by PLM and partnering companies Enbridge Employee Services Canada Inc.; PLH Group; Quanta Services; Rockford Corporation; Sheehan Pipeline Construction; Spectra Energy Transmission; Strike; TransCanada Pipelines Ltd.; U.S. Pipeline; and Welded Construction.
The five-module program is designed to foster safe work environments by assisting leaders at all levels to understand and leverage the power of workplace culture on safety performance. Emphasizing engagement, effective communication and positive recognition as the building blocks of safety culture excellence, the course reveals the impact each leader has on employee attitudes, behaviors and beliefs.
“With this leadership program, Caterpillar and your global pipeline dealer, PipeLine Machinery International, focus in on our unique customer base, raising the bar on safety as it has never been done before,” said Lindley Imeson, PLM Vice President of Product Support.
The program content is tailored to reflect the specific challenges and risks intrinsic in pipeline industry work, with included video produced on real-life job sites and featuring interviews with genuine pipeliners.
Well-established methods for building a culture of safety are explained through scenarios, imagery and testimonials taken from the environments in which participants work every day. The educational content is derived from decades of Caterpillar research and development of operative safety management strategies.
The five training modules contain 24 individual sessions formatted for flexible facilitation, and each course can be completed in individual segments of 30-45 minutes, or longer sessions to accommodate a variety of training needs and schedules.
The complete program package includes a binder with facilitator and train-the-trainer instructions, as well as a USB flash drive complete with videos, presentation materials and handouts. For more information on the Pipeline Safety Leadership Program, call PLM at 713-939-0007 or visit plmcat.com.
