Hitachi Utility-Class Excavators Get Upgrade

Hitachi ZX180LC-6

Hitachi ZX130-6 excavatorHitachi Construction Machinery – Americas has upgraded three models of its utility-class excavators to meet EPA Final Tier 4 (FT4)/EU Stage IV emission standards. The ZX130-6, ZX160LC-6 and ZX180LC-6 are equipped with an EPA FT4/EU Stage IV Isuzu engine complete with integrated engine technologies and do not require a diesel particulate filter.

The introduction of these three machines brings all five excavators in Hitachi’s utility excavator line up-to-date with FT4 emission standards – the ZX210-6 and ZX210LC-6 models went through the upgrade in 2015.

Efficiency

The ZX130-6, ZX160LC-6 and ZX180LC-6 are equipped with a HIOS III hydraulic system, which serves to balance engine performance
with hydraulic flow.

The hydraulic boost system and enhanced boom recirculation generate aggressive boom and arm speed, allowing operators to move more dirt each day. These models also provide efficient performance with three work modes – High Productivity (H/P), Power (PWR) and Economy (ECO). H/P delivers more power and faster hydraulic response; PWR delivers a balance of power and speed, plus fuel economy for normal operation; and ECO maximizes fuel efficiency while delivery an enhanced level of production. Additionally, auto-idle and auto-shutdown features contribute to fuel efficiency, and an easily accessible battery disconnect switch extends battery life.

The three upgraded excavators are equipped with a new, fuel-efficient FT4 Isuzu engine that saves on service time and boosts efficiency. The Isuzu engines employ cooled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC), and selective catalytic reduction (SCR). Diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) is injected into the exhaust stream of the engine, runs through a catalyst and turns the NOx in the exhaust into harmless water vapor and nitrogen gas. The EGR is specifically tuned to further reduce NOx to meet new emission standards with minimal use of DEF. In addition, an improved piston design allows particulate matter to be burned in cylinder, eliminating the need for a diesel particulate filter (DPF).

Comfort

All three upgraded excavators feature unobstructed all-around visibility thanks to a new hood design paired with a wide expanse of front, side and overhead glass and mirrors, plus a standard rearview camera. Operators gain maximum support from a sculpted mechanical suspension high-back seat. An automatic, high-velocity, bi-level climate-control system, with automotive-style adjustable louvers, aides in keeping the glass clear and the cab comfortable, helping the operator increase productivity.

Durability

D-Channel side frames house and protect the coolers and FT4 engine. Booms, arms and mainframes are tough and warranted for three years or 10,000 hours, whichever variable comes first. With large idlers, rollers and strutted track links, the sealed and lubricated undercarriage is built for sustainability.

Uptime

To minimize maintenance, he three newly reintroduced excavators feature grouped service points, at-a-glance gauges and convenient upper-structure handrails that provide for easy engine access. Extended service intervals help maximize uptime, and scheduled maintenance is trackable using Hitachi’s ZXLink system, which comes standard on all three models. The ZXLink system gives owners the power to optimize their operation and maximize profits. With the support of their Hitachi dealer, owners can use their data to reduce idling time as well as maximize productivity and uptime. They have access to fleet location, function, hours, fuel consumption, alerts and other essential data at their fingertips. Owners can also view location and alert information from iOS or Android devices.

New options

The ZX130-6, ZX160LC-6 and ZX180LC-6 come with an optional auxiliary function lever that provides proportional control for auxiliary hydraulic attachments to help improve productivity on the jobsite. 855-646-3347, www.hitachiconstruction.com.
