Volvo Construction Equipment

Despite a 6 percent fall in net sales, Volvo Construction Equipment’s third quarter 2015 financial results yielded stable operating margin and market share growth in larger machines. In the face of lower demand, operating margin remained largely stable, at 4.8 percent, in comparison to 5.1 percent in 2014. The offset earnings can be attributed to advantageous currency movements and gross margin improvements as a result of an improved product mix and lower operating costs.

In North America, the current 4 percent growth rate has started to display signs of slowing. The European market is down 7 percent, driven by a drop in Russia and slowdown in France. The numbers show a 3 percent growth in Europe when Russia is excluded from the count. The Brazilian market decrease of 45 percent due to slow economic development and low business confidence continue to affect the South American market, which is down 36 percent. The Chinese market has seen the greatest decline, falling 50 percent.

Martin Weissburg, president of Volvo Construction Equipment, said the company’s targeted sales activities and efficiency program has helped deliver positive operating income and market share gains for larger machines, despite the volumes 25 percent drop this period. www.volvoce.com
