San Diego to Host WESTT No-Dig
The 11th Western Regional No-Dig Conference & Exhibition will be hosted by the Western Society for Trenchless Technology (WESTT), along with media partner Underground Construction magazine, from Oct. 26-27 at The Declan Suites San Diego in San Diego, CA.
Attendees can join with contractors, engineers and public works personnel in their quest to solve the problems of the nation’s aging infrastructure with an emphasis on constructing, rehabilitating and managing underground utilities.
Participants will be educated about trenchless technology from industry experts who will be presenting peer reviewed technical papers on a wide range of topics that include pipe bursting, structural water main rehabilitation, installation of sanitary sewers, HDD crossing, pipe ramming and much more.
With a full day of seminars and an unbiased products and service exhibition on Oct. 26, you’ll leave equipped to take your trenchless program to a whole new level. And on Oct. 27 from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., the WESTT Chapter will host the NASTT’s CIPP Good Practices Course. Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and Professional
Development Hours (PDHs) will
be offered upon request.
Host city
San Diego is an ideal city for the conference with the Public Utilities Department providing safe, healthy drinking water to the 1.3 million residents, and regional wastewater treatment and disposal services for more than two million residents of San Diego County.
In the early 2000s, the city of San Diego was hit with a rash of water main breaks and sewer spills. This was due in large part because the city’s aging water and sewer infrastructure was in need of replacement, repair and upgrades. Some pipelines had been in operation for a hundred years.
Beginning in 2007, the city increased water rates by 6.5 percent per year for three years to replace and improve water system infrastructure. In addition, sewer rates were increased by 8.75 percent in 2007 and 2008, and 7 percent in 2009 and 2010 to operate, maintain, repair and upgrade the city’s wastewater system. These rate increases are paying for more than $585 million of needed water system improvements and about $585.4 of necessary sewer system upgrades. These projects include replacement of water and sewer mains, water treatment plants upgrades, sewer pipeline rehabilitation and water and sewer pump station improvements.

Registration for the first day of the conference includes an informative technical program and product exhibition area. On the second day of the conference, the NASTT CIPP Good Practices Course will
be offered.
Participants will be able to attend peer reviewed presentations and 20 sponsored exhibits, in addition to meeting with industry experts in a relaxed atmosphere during several networking opportunities. In addition, attendees will receive a copy of the NASTT No-Dig Proceedings presented at the national conference.
There are sponsored breakfasts each day, two scheduled session breaks and lunch in the exhibit area. An evening cocktail reception is also planned for the first day of the conference for attendees to mingle with their peers, friends, industry professionals and exhibitors alike.
