Equipment Spotlight: Reduced/Zero Tail Swing Excavators

Reduced/zero tail swing excavators by Case, Bobcat, John Deere Construction, Doosan, Hitachi, Caterpillar, Hyundai Construction Equipment Americas and Volvo.

Case
The CASE CX75C minimum swing radius (MSR) excavator offers contractors a safer, more productive and comfortable machine with excellent visibility. Key advancements over the previous CASE designs include a 5 percent improvement in fuel efficiency, a 7 percent faster cycle time, 20 percent larger fuel tank for extended runtimes and a 7 percent wider cab for increased productivity. The new models also offer 9 percent more hydraulic power than previous models for greater digging power and responsiveness. 262.636.0447, http://www.casece.com

Bobcat

The Bobcat E45 compact excavator offers its operators true zero house tail swing so you can get close to your work with confidence. With a smoother, quieter and more efficient hydraulic system, increased arm breakout force, lift capacity, dump height and slew force, the E45 will make working on the job site more productive. The E45 is equipped with load sense hydraulics which gives a smooth and predictable response to the joystick. Operator comfort is enhanced with a spacious cab, allowing for easy entry and exit, and easy access to the engine for faster maintenance. Add the optional extendable arm for an additional 30 inches of reach when at full extension, while retaining the original arm and bucket forces. 866.823.7898, http://www.bobcatadvantage.com

John Deere Construction

The 97 hp, IT4 John Deere 135G delivers impressive arm force, dig force and lift capacity. The reduced tail swing design allows the 135G to work closer to objects on congested jobsites, plus it is easy to transport to the next job. Industry exclusive, double seal swing bearing and three welded boom bulkheads deliver rock solid durability. In addition, a highly efficient, heavy duty cooling system keeps things cool, even in tough environments or high altitudes. 800.503.3373, http://www.deere.com

Doosan
The Doosan DX235LCR-5 reduced tail swing excavator can work close to buildings and in confined areas without sacrificing performance. This machine is designed for long life with an extra-sturdy frame and reinforced superstructure. The DX235LCR-5 is ideal for operating in congested jobsites such as roadways and rail lines without blocking traffic in the adjacent lane or track, and it minimizes the potential for damage when working close to buildings or walls. http://www.doosanequipment.com

Hitachi
Hitachi’s largest reduced tail swing excavator – the ZX245USLC-5 – delivers efficiency, reliability and durability in an easy-to-maneuver package. Powered by a fuel-efficient EPA Interim Tier 4/EU Stage IIIB Isuzu engine, this excavator’s tight tail swing radius, increased swing torque and bucket digging force provide maximum productivity in confined spaces. Other features include smooth hydraulics, a spacious cab, grouped service points, three work modes, ZXLink remote monitoring and more. Nimble and powerful, it’s the perfect match for general construction and underground utility work. 866.973.0394, http://www.hitachiconstruction.com

Caterpillar

The new 303E CR Mini Hydraulic Excavator, only 61 inches wide across the blade and having a compact-radius design that limits tail swing to less than 5 inches, is an easily transported machine that works efficiently and safely in small spaces and on congested job sites. With a maximum operating weight of 7,782 pounds, the 303E CR expands the Cat mini excavator line and gives buyers more choice in the 2.5-3.5 metric ton size class. The new model’s 23.5-hp Cat C1.3 engine combines with a powerful load-sensing hydraulic system delivering flows to 23.1 gpm to provide productive, reliable performance in demanding applications. http://cat.com/requestCatinfo

Hyundai Construction Equipment Americas

Two new compact radius crawler excavators – the R145LCR-9A and R235LCR-9A – provide operators with a certified Interim Tier 4 engine upgrade, improved hydraulics, increased operator comfort and more durability. The R145LCR-9A and R235LCR-9A boast operating weights of 33,020 pounds and 52,470 pounds and offer digging forces of 12,300 foot-pounds and 32,550 foot-pounds, respectively. A low emission, low noise, 116 hp Perkins 1204E Interim Tier 4/Stage IIIB engine powers the R145LCR-9A while the R235LCR-9A uses an eco-friendly 157 hp Cummins QSB6.7 Interim Tier 4/Stage IIIB engine. Both engines allow operators to choose Power, Standard and Economy modes. 877.509.2254, http://www.hceamericas.com

Volvo CE

The new ECR58D and ECR88D short swing radius compact excavators from Volvo feature automatic two-speed travel for superior traction, and hydraulic travel pedals for easy and accurate track control. Thanks to their reinforced, three-piece, high-tensile steel X-shaped frame undercarriage, they are durable and reliable. The models feature impressive bucket and dipper digging forces allowing them to power through tough working conditions. Superior hydraulics and pump flow also help provide faster cycle times and enhanced digging performance. Quickly positioning the ECR58D and ECR88D is simple, with slew and offset movements controlled simultaneously by a joystick that’s precise and easy to use. For greater flexibility, the excavators are available with a mono-boom (or an optional two-piece boom on the ECR88D), several arm configurations and blade. The D-Series also offers a variety of optional quick couplers and a new and extensive range of genuine Volvo attachments. 852.650.2000, http://www.volvo.com
