PCCA Convention Heats Up In St. Thomas

The location of the 69th Annual Power & Communication Contractors Association’s convention couldn’t have been better.

Held March 14 – 19, the warm and sunny environment of the Frenchman’s Reef & Morning Star Marriott Beach Resort in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, was a welcome respite from the brutal winter that many of the association’s members left behind.

With a large attendance of 368, the 2014 convention was the largest since 2001. The crowd was greeted by great weather and a full agenda of presentations, networking and other learning activities. The convention was shepherded by outgoing PCCA President Glen Amerine and his wife Pat.

The PCCA Leadership Development Program kicked off the convention on March 14. This event furthers advanced leadership skills. The next day featured a presentation by former NFL star, current ESPN analyst and cancer survivor Merril Hoge who provided a touching and powerful message around his philosophy of “find a way.” The following reception poolside with food and music greeted attendees.

On Monday, the associates exhibit and breakfast was well-attended. Next up was the annual golf tournament with a large number of golfers testing their skills on the difficult course that encompassed beach and mountains.

The last day of the convention wrapped up with a report on the Affordable Care Act and the annual Construction Industry Roundtable, an open discussion with experts on market conditions and issues impacting the telecommunications and electrical construction markets.
