UCTA To Honor Industry Leader Rod Thornhill

Underground Construction Technology Association (UCTA) and Underground Construction magazine has been awarding industry leaders with its Most Valuable Professional (MVP) career achievement award for two decades.

Rod Thornhill, P.E., president of White Rock Consultants, Dallas/Fort Worth, TX, has been named the 2015 MVP for his outstanding contributions to the underground infrastructure industry.

To pay tribute to this year’s honoree, UCTA is hosting a special luncheon on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2015, to be held in conjunction with the annual UCT conference. The banquet will be held at the George R. Brown Convention Center from 12 to 1:30 p.m.

Thornhill formed his consulting firm, based in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, in the 1980s. During that time, he established a well-respected engineering practice emphasizing condition assessment. Around the turn of the century, through NASSCO, Thornhill became interested in the possibility of taking an older, core program from the Water Research Center in England, and dramatically overhauling and adapting to fit North American standards and needs. Thornhill became the principal developer of the Pipeline Assessment & Certification Program (PCAP) for NASSCO which established a standard for gravity pipe inspection for our industry.

Most recently, Thornhill has been involved with the city of Fort Worth designing and conducting an assessment program for large diameter pipe that has led to a long-term maintenance plan for the city. His work is credited with saving Fort Worth millions of dollars and has resulted in a long-term maintenance and rehabilitation plan by the city.

To make reservations for an individual or table at the MVP luncheon, contact Cliff Avery at cavery@texas.net, (512) 251-8101 or visit the UCTA website at www.uctaonline.org. Pre-registering is encouraged as seating is limited.
