Backhoe Loaders: Equipment Spotlight
Backhoe loaders from Case, Volvo, Caterpillar, Bradco/Paladin Construction Group, Kubota Tractor and Terex.
Case
The recently updated loader/backhoe product line includes the Case 580N, 580 Super N, 580 Super N Wide Track and 590 Super N, delivering increases in backhoe breakout force and lift, along with increased loader breakout force, lift and reach. Case-exclusive Power Lift channels hydraulic power directly to the backhoe boom with the touch of a button. As a result, N Series backhoe lifting capabilities outperform competitive models by as much as 39 percent – while running at low engine RPMs. 262.636.0447, casece.com
Volvo
With an average operating weight that ranges from 17,500 – 19,500 pounds, and gross power of 83 – 98 hp, the BL60B and BL70B were designed and built with power, strength, long life and cost saving efficiency in mind. The one piece chassis, loader arm and excavator boom are all made from high quality steel and robotically welded, giving precise, constant weld runs for structural integrity. The machines are fitted with two floor-mounted ergonomic levers that give optimum grip for the operator’s hand movements when operating the excavator. The right lever is fitted with a horn for safety, and the left lever can have an optional fingertip button. This button controls the two-way auxiliary hydraulic line required when using double acting excavator attachments. Fitted with either 16.5- or 18-inch front tires, these machines have a small turning radius and are extremely maneuverable, as well as easier to position on site. Helped by a new cast bucket linkage design, the bucket can rotate 205 degrees — allowing vertical digging in all positions without repositioning the machine. 828.650.2000, volvo.com
Caterpillar
The new Cat F Series Backhoe Loaders (416F, 420F and 430F) are redesigned center-pivot models that deliver enhanced performance, visibility, durability and serviceability. The new models use the Cat C4.4 engine, which meets Tier 4 Interim emissions standards and provides horsepower ratings from 87 to 106. The F Series models feature a new loader linkage that provides greater lift and dump heights, as well as increased lift capacity. Specific-model enhancements include an electronic torque limiter for improved hydraulic performance and power management, new torque converter for improved roading characteristics and power-boosted brakes. catrequests@cat.com
Bradco/Paladin Construction Group
At 925 pounds without a bucket, the Bradco 485 Backhoe’s compact size allows operators to easily move the unit around the job site and provides a maximum digging depth of 8 feet, 5 inches. The full 180-degree dual-cylinder swing rotation provides equal power in both directions. A 10-foot, 7-inch horizontal reach from the swing post efficiently places dirt away from the digging area and minimizes the need to move the machine. The Bradco 485 Backhoe is compatible with bucket sizes from 10 – 24 inches and capacities that range from 0.92 – 3.1 cubic feet. The Bradco 485 Backhoe’s SAE float detent in the boom circuit and circuit relief valve provide added protection and safety—allowing the operator to smoothly move from position to position without error. A high back adjustable seat and easy-to-use swing speed controls make for comfortable, yet precise bucket placement and digging. 800.456.7100, paladinbrands.com
Kubota Tractor
The Kubota L45 TLB tractor-loader-backhoe features an HST Plus Transmission and the versatility of three machines in one, combining a strong, integrated loader and quick attach backhoe with a Category I 3-point hitch. With a slanted boom design and braceless frame for excellent visibility, the loader is designed with a lifting capacity of 2,200 pounds. The backhoe offers a 10-foot digging depth and backhoe crawling mode to reposition along trenches. Powered by a 45-hp Kubota diesel engine, the L45 TLB’s immense versatility is ideal for operators with professional results in mind. 888.458.2682, kubota.com
Terex
The Terex TLB840 backhoe loader boasts a 88-hp Perkins engine and is powered by an optional 4-speed servo power syncro transmission with automatic shifting, delivering fuel efficiency and high tractive effort. The TLB840 has a curved boom design that offers operators greater clearance to reach over obstacles and the ability to load closer into trucks for greater productivity. With a dig depth of 14 feet, 9 inches (extended to 18 feet, 1 inch) and a reach up of 18 feet, 9 inches (extended 21 feet, 11 inches), the unit is designed with a new slew system that provides high torque for easier backfilling and slewing uphill. 662.393.1800, terex.com
