UCTA: It’s All About Education
Guest speaker Jason Iken, P.E., senior assistant director, city of Houston-Wastewater Operations Branch, spoke to nearly 90 attendees at the Underground Construction Technology Association (UCTA) Gulf Coast Chapter general luncheon meeting held in Houston on Aug. 3. The topic covered the city of Houston’s management of its sanitary sewer rehab program.
The program is based on an approach to correct causes of sanitary sewer overflow (SSO). The program is a structural-based and non-structural response to replace or rehabilitate and to clean the city’s wastewater collection system, increase preventive maintenance activities for lift stations and force mains, and improve management information systems.
In related association news, each chapter recently recognized college scholarship recipients at their general meetings. UCTA awarded scholarships of $1,000 each to 12 students, totaling $12,000.
Gulf Coast Chapter scholarship winners are Maria Alday, daughter of Roberto Alday, BRH-Garver; Carmen Brown, daughter of Carmen Brown, Boyer Inc.; Alexander Donath, son of Robert Donath, PM Construction; Courtney Elliot, daughter of Michael Elliot, PM Construction; Courtney Ford, daughter of Russell Ford, Lockwood Andrews & Newnam; Claudia Hernandez, daughter of Jesus Hernandez, BRH Garver Construction; and Sabrina Read, daughter of Traci Read, Oildom Publishing of Texas.
North Texas Chapter scholarship winners are Maria Box and Edward Box, children of Thelma Box, Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam; Darby Sherrod, daughter of Brent Sherrod, American Civil Engineering Services; and Jennifer Seifert and Nikki Seifert, children of Terry Anderson, Sekisui-SPR Americas.
