Glendale Water & Power hosts Thailand utility

Glendale Water & Power (GWP) hosted the Provincial Electric Authority of Thailand in April at Glendale Water & Power’s administrative offices. The Provincial Electric Authority (PEA) is the national utility of Thailand serving 13 million customers.

The PEA intends to spend close to $15 billion over the next 15 years to put into action a large-scale project to move their utility to a smart grid. The reason for their visit to GWP was to learn about a successful smart meter implementation project.

PEA visited GWP to get an appreciation for deployment of the smart grid project and see the processes used by a utility; that is simultaneously installing electric and water Smart Meters.

“It is quite a compliment to Glendale that the PEA, a utility serving 13 million customers, would take the time to visit a smaller utility like GWP. This emphasizes the importance of GWP’s national-leading initiative in smart grid.

Glenn Steiger and the smart grid implementation team gave the PEA executives a variety of presentations about GWP and its Smart Grid project. Before going back to Thailand, the PEA’s last stop is the Duke Envision Center located in Erlanger, Kentucky, which is a first-of-its-kind laboratory and demonstration centre that shows how the smart grid technology dramatically enhances system efficiency and reliability.
