Vermeer CEO named to President's Export Council
President Obama has selected Vermeer CEO Mary Andringa as a private-sector representative for business, industry, agriculture and labor on the President’s Export Council (PEC). The PEC is the principal national advisory committee on international trade.
“It’s both an honor and a pleasure to serve the family business and our country through this appointment to the President’s Export Council,” said Andringa. “I look forward to representing Vermeer and the manufacturing industry in an effort to expand export trade and further support a successful business environment globally.”
Andringa currently serves as the president and CEO of Vermeer Corporation, which was founded by Andringa’s father, Gary Vermeer, in 1948. Vermeer products are distributed through a global dealership network in more than 50 countries. Andringa has worked for Vermeer since 1982, holding positions in market research and serving as the Chief Operating Officer from 1989 until 2003. Andringa is active on a number of boards, including her current role as Vice Chair of the National Association of Manufacturers.
The PEC, through the Secretary of Commerce, advises the President on matters relating to and expanding U.S. export trade. It reviews government policies and programs which affect U.S. trade performance; promotes export expansion; and provides a forum for discussing and resolving trade-related problems among the business, industrial, agricultural, labor and government sectors. Andringa was one of twenty private-sector members appointed to the President’s Export Council for 2010.
