Godwin Pumps Mourns Loss of Joseph Abbott, Jr.
Joseph L. Abbott, Jr., national sales manager for Godwin Pumps, passed away on Sept. 12.
In a statement released by the company, President Michel Bakhos, said, “Joe Abbott was a cornerstone of Godwin Pumps and was by far, one of our great people. In my brief interactions with Joe at Godwin and through my knowledge of him in the industry, he was well respected as a family man and a true gentleman. I know that he will be sorely missed throughout our Godwin family, in our industry, in his own family and throughout the community where he lived.”
Abbott joined the Godwin Pumps team in 1989 as national sales manager, bringing sales and manufacturing expertise with products made specifically for the sewer rehabilitation industry.
In the ensuing 20 years, Abbott was Godwin’s primary sales contact for consulting engineers, working on hundreds of large and small bypass operations – from 100,000 gpm to 300 mgd – pumping process sewers as well as municipal treatment plants, pump stations and sewer systems. In addition, he helped build Godwin’s distribution network throughout the United States and Canada, managed product pricing and oversaw bids. Abbott also was a frequent speaker at trade functions throughout North America.
A Radnor, PA, resident, Abbott received a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Saint Joseph’s University, Philadelphia, PA. He served as a member of NASSCO for more than 20 years, also as a director. Abbott also was a member of the American Rental Association, The National Mining Association, the North American Society of Trenchless Technology, the Water Environment Federation and the National Utilities Contractors Association.
Abbott is survived by his wife and their three children. Donations are being accepted in his memory at the
Life Center of Eastern Delaware County Meal Program, 6310 Market St., Upper Darby, PA 19082.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Thomas of Villanova Church (University Campus), 1229 West Lancaster Ave, Rosemont, PA 19010, onMonday, September 20 at 10 A.M.
