HDD rig specifications from TT Technologies, Ditch Witch, Central Mine Equipment, Vermeer, American Augers, Barbco, Astec Underground and Universal HDD.
TT Technologies
Designed for residential service, small diameter main installations, last mile operations and gas pipeline applications, the compact Grundodrill 4X offers 9,800 pounds of thrust and pullback. The drill features a dual hydrostatic pump system and a four-auger stake down system that provides greater stability. The Grundodrill 4X also comes with the exclusive Smart Vice system that performs vice cycling operations automatically. 800.533.2078, www.tttechnologies.com
Ditch Witch
With 100,000 pounds of pullback and 12,000 foot-pounds of torque, the 268-hp JT100 All Terrain is built for extended-range bores and installations of large-diameter pipe. The exclusive, patented two-pipe drilling system of the JT100 All Terrain enables the machine to complete successful installations in most ground formations, including solid rock. Two other exclusive features distinguish the JT100 All Terrain. One is a dual-pivot drill frame that allows for steeper entry angles without raising the tracks off the ground. This improves machine stability and keeps the operator’s station level. The other is the machine’s assisted-makeup feature that automatically adjusts carriage thrust speed with rotation when making up and breaking out drill pipe, which minimizes wear on pipe threads and extends the life of the drill pipe. 800.654.6481, www.ditchwitch.com
Central Mine Equipment
The CME-50DD is a mid-size machine that provides more than 50,000 pounds of thrust and over 9,000 foot-pounds of rotary torque. Features include all hydraulic controls, dual range thrust and rotation, floating carriage, patent pending open top heavy-duty vise and radio control tramming system. Efficient for both large and small diameter pipe installations, there are no chains that can stretch or break. And since the drill rod is on the same centerline as the rack and pinions, there is less stress on drill rods, the carriage and other components. 800.325.8827, www.cmeco.com
Vermeer
A 65 hp Kubota diesel engine powers the compact D16x20 Series II. It provides 2,000 foot-pounds of rotational torque and 1,600 pounds of thrust/pullback. The onboard pump provides high flow in large-diameter bores for more efficient backreaming. Extendable tracks that adjust outward increases stability on uneven terrain with. Other features include dual joysticks integrated with all drilling function controls, the AutoDrill system with patent-pending Auto Resume, and a comfortable operator’s station. And visibility is enhanced while loading/unloading with a tethered ground drive controller. 888.837.6337, www.vermeer.com
American Augers
The DD-6 self-contained horizontal directional drilling system provides 60,000 pounds of maximum thrust/pullback power, and 10,000 foot-pounds of maximum rotary torque. The unit is equipped with a four drive, rack and pinion carriage system with adjustable force limiter, 2-inch fluid course for increased down hole hydraulic power, and rig mounted crane with a lifting rate of 6,000 pounds. The DD-6 operates with C-6.6 Caterpillar diesel Tier III engine, and is rated at 174 hp. Design features include: Pipe Hog open-top wrench, self-propelled rubber tracks and 315 feet of working drill pipe capability. 800.324.4930, www.americanaugers.com
Barbco
Barbco’s Maxi Rig is a track mounted 500,000-pound push/pull directional drill with an onboard Driller/Surveyor cab. Barbco offers directional drills in 60,000, 100,000, 120,000, 250,000, 500,000 and 750,000 pounds push/pull on tracks. Maxi rigs are also available on a trailer up to one million pounds. Barbco also will customize directional drills to suite your needs. 800.448.8934, www.barbco.com
Astec Underground
The Astec EarthPro Series DD4045 provides 40,000 pounds of thrust/pullback force with the capability of up to 4,500 foot-pounds of rotary torque. The maximum rotary speed can reach up to 200 rpm. The drill weighs 20,000 pounds, and is 257 inches long by 83 inches wide at the tracks. The drill is powered by an 148-hp Cummins turbocharged diesel engine. It also has an onboard Triplex mud pump that can produce up to 70 gpm at up to 1,300 psi. This drill also boasts the field-proven Quad rack-and-pinion carriage drive. The floating carriage is capable of two speeds, including a 150 feet/minute fast mode for adding and removing rods. 800.527.6020, www.astecunderground.com
Universal HDD
The UNI 100×120 rig was specifically developed for min-level and long range construction applications. It has a 275-hp turbo diesel John Deere engine, 100,000 pounds of thrust/pullback and 12,000-6,000 foot/pounds of rotation torque and 160-80 rpm of rotation speed. Key features include double rack and pinion, automatic rod-loader, enclosed climate-controlled cabin, on-board crane, complete video monitoring of working cycle. 847.955.0050, www.unihdd.com
