Gene Miller Inducted Into AGC Of Iowa Hall Of Fame
The Associated General Contractors of Iowa Hall of Fame was conceived as the AGC Of Iowa’s highest form of individual member recognition.
The honorees are selected by the AGC of Iowa Executive Committee and nominations are based on each individual’s lifetime achievements in this industry, as well as lifetime contributions to the association on both the state and national levels. The 2009 winner is Gene Miller.
For 60 years, Gene Miller has been the owner and chairman emeritus of the board of Gene Miller Company Inc. Miller’s devotion for underground construction began as a young man, drilling his first hole in 1945. He learned many facets of the trade while working with and for Einer Kramme, Iowa Bridge Construction and Sofus Kramme, KS Kramme and Sons.
Miller founded his company in 1948 with a Jeep Trencher. Over the years, the company grew to become a leader in trenchless technology, using auger boring, pipe jacking, tunneling, large diameter pipe rams and horizontal directional drilling.
A pioneer and innovator in the industry, Miller is known for never saying no and never putting limitations on ideas. Miller the Driller currently holds the world record for the largest pipe ram on a project which was completed in October 2003 in Altoona, IA.
Although retired from the day to day operations of the company, Miller still serves as technical advisor. He also has published a book depicting his life in the industry, Miller the Driller, The Man Behind the Name. 515.283.2424, www.agcia.org
