Barnes Named President Of Montgomery & Associates

Gary Montgomery, Chairman of the Board of Montgomery & Associates Inc., a Houston-based civil engineering and consulting services firm, has announced that Wendell (Buddy) Barnes has taken over as president. Montgomery will remain as chairman.

“Buddy’s leadership and expertise offers Montgomery & Associates the opportunity to achieve a higher level of excellence. We are thrilled to welcome Buddy to our firm,” said Montgomery. “Buddy’s skills and experience are a perfect complement to our existing capabilities.”

Prior to joining Montgomery & Associates, Barnes served as a principal of Jacobs Engineering Group. Jacobs recently acquired Carter & Burgess Inc., where he was a vice president of the public works unit in Houston, responsible for marketing, design project management, design production, construction management, training and staffing.

Barnes has dealt directly with city managers, public works directors, city engineers and elected public officials in Harris, Fort Bend, Brazoria, Montgomery and Galveston counties. He also has had significant involvement with the Bexar Metropolitan Water District and San Antonio Water System in San Antonio, San Jacinto River Authority, North Harris County Regional Water Authority, Harris County Flood Control District and the cities of Houston, Pearland, Sugar Land and La Porte.

Barnes served as airport engineer, manager of construction, and manager of planning and programming for the Houston Airport System; program director for the Greater Houston Wastewater Program; and deputy director of the engineering construction and real estate group for the city of Houston Public Works and Engineering Department.

Barnes also spent 21 years with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers working in the Mobile, Savannah and Baden Wuertenburg Districts as resident engineer, area engineer, deputy district engineer and contracting officer.

He holds an MBA from Mississippi College and a bachelor’s of science degree, engineering management, University of Missouri, Rolla.

Involved in numerous organizations throughout his career, Barnes has participated in the American Arbitration Association, American Public Works Association, American Society of Civil Engineers, American Society for Testing and Materials F36 Committee, Construction Management Association of America, Gulf Coast Trenchless Association, National Society of Professional Engineers, Society of American Military Engineers and the Texas Society of Professional Engineers.
