Norfolk, Va., underground power line project expands to Riverview neighborhood
(UI) — Construction crews have started installing underground power lines in a Norfolk neighborhood as part of an ongoing effort to improve electric service reliability, according to 13News Now.
Work is currently focused in the Riverview area, where new underground electrical infrastructure is being installed along residential streets. The project is part of a larger initiative aimed at reducing outages tied to storms and tree damage by replacing overhead lines with buried systems.
As reported by 13News Now, the work will eventually include removing existing overhead lines once installation is complete. Crews are expected to continue construction through early summer, with additional neighborhoods scheduled for similar upgrades.
Residents have noted short-term disruptions from construction activity but say the long-term benefits could include fewer outages and potential improvements to property values. The project is one of several underway as utilities expand underground infrastructure to strengthen system resilience and reduce maintenance tied to above-ground lines.
