Howard County, Md., to install 30,000-gallon underground fire suppression tank
ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (UI) — Howard County Department of Public Works is set to begin construction on an underground fire suppression tank in Fulton, part of an effort to expand fire protection infrastructure in an area not served by the county’s water system.
The project calls for installation of a 30,000-gallon tank along Lallybroch Lane, just north of Lime Kiln Road. Work is expected to begin in early May and continue through the end of the month, weather permitting.
Construction will include excavation of a large trench — approximately 60 feet long, 40 feet wide and 15 feet deep — to place the tank below ground, followed by installation of a concrete pad above the structure.
Officials said the system is designed to improve fire protection for nearby properties that are not connected to the public water distribution network.
Crews will work weekdays during daytime hours. Traffic impacts are not expected, though signage has been installed to alert residents and motorists to construction activity in the area.
