Minnesota trench collapse kills worker near Rochester
(UI) — A construction worker was killed after a trench collapsed in southeastern Minnesota, according to CBS Minnesota. The incident occurred on May 31 in Rock Dell Township, south of Rochester, and triggered a response from multiple emergency agencies.
The Olmsted County Sheriff's Office said deputies were dispatched around 5:15 p.m. to an area near County Road 108 Southwest, close to the Schumann Wildlife Management Area. Authorities said a man in his 20s was working inside the trench when it gave way.
Emergency crews from several agencies, including the Rochester and Stewartville fire departments, assisted in recovery operations. The worker was the only person inside the excavation when the collapse occurred.
According to CBS Minnesota, rescuers eventually recovered the victim from the trench, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials have not yet released the man's identity pending notification of family members.
The circumstances surrounding the collapse remain under investigation. As reported by CBS Minnesota, no additional injuries were reported.
