College Station OKs new sewer trunkline along TXDOT corridor
(UI) — College Station’s city council has approved nearly $4 million for construction of new sewer trunklines as part of a wastewater infrastructure project coordinated with a major Texas Department of Transportation roadway expansion.
The council approved a $3.55 million construction contract with Elliott Construction LLC, along with a $355,150 contingency, bringing the total project authorization to $3.9 million. The work covers Phase II and Phase III of the Medical District Trunkline project.
The project includes construction of approximately 3,500 linear feet of 21-inch sewer pipe, 1,700 linear feet of 18-inch pipe and an additional 3,500 linear feet of 12-inch sewer line. The scope also calls for decommissioning Lift Stations 2 and 3, as well as the Rock Prairie lift station.
City staff said the project is being executed in coordination with TxDOT’s Big 6 roadway project, with portions of the sewer work located within the same construction zone. The alignment runs near the Rudder Freeway corridor and the Lick Creek hike-and-bike trail area.
Funding for the work is included in the city’s Wastewater Capital Improvement Projects Fund, which carries a combined project budget of $7.6 million. Construction proposals were submitted by five qualified contractors, with Elliott Construction selected following the city’s review process.
The sewer upgrades are intended to improve capacity and system reliability while reducing reliance on aging lift stations as growth continues in the Medical District area.
