Worker killed after water main rupture floods repair site in Frisco, Texas
(UI) — A construction worker died on Feb. 10 in Frisco after a ruptured water main rapidly filled an underground access area during repair work, as reported by WFAA.
Emergency crews were dispatched around 1:21 p.m. on Feb. 10 to the intersection of Eldorado Parkway and Independence Parkway following reports of a water rescue, according to the City of Frisco. Contractors were performing repairs on a primary water line when the pipe unexpectedly failed, sending water into the access well and protective trench box where two workers were positioned.
One worker was able to exit the confined space, but the second remained trapped as water levels rose. Responders later recovered the individual, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
City officials confirmed the crew involved was employed by a private contractor and was not working on a City of Frisco project. The victim’s name has not been released.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and other safety agencies have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the rupture and the site’s safety measures. According to WFAA, authorities are continuing to review the incident as part of the ongoing inquiry.
