Natural gas pipeline explosion near Cameron Parish LNG line injures worker, prompts investigation
A natural gas pipeline explosion in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, left one worker injured and prompted an emergency response near the Holly Beach and Johnson Bayou area, according to KPLC News.
The incident occurred along a 28-mile pipeline connected to an offshore LNG facility and located south of a nearby compressor station. Emergency responders reported visible flames and heavy smoke at the site following the explosion. The fire was brought under control, though officials said remaining gas in the line may continue to burn off as part of standard safety procedures.
One operator associated with the pipeline sustained minor injuries and was transported for medical evaluation. Authorities confirmed there were no off-site impacts from the explosion, and natural gas flow from the connected offshore facility was shut off to isolate the affected section, KPLC reported.
As a precaution, Johnson Bayou High School — located roughly six miles from the incident — was briefly placed under a shelter-in-place order, which has since been lifted. Emergency crews secured the area while utility personnel worked to monitor conditions and manage the remaining gas in the pipeline.
Louisiana State Police and relevant agencies are expected to investigate the cause of the explosion. Officials have not yet provided a timeline for repairs or a return to service for the affected pipeline segment.
