Nearly 70,000 gallons of wastewater spilled into a cove on Lake Wylie in southwest Charlotte after a pipe failure at a lift station, according to WBTV.
City officials said the incident occurred April 21 in the Palisades community when the failure allowed untreated wastewater to overflow into nearby waters.
As reported by WBTV, the release totaled just under 70,000 gallons and reached a cove off Lake Wylie, raising concerns about system reliability and environmental impact.
Officials said sewer overflows are often linked to blockages or materials entering the system that can restrict flow and increase pressure on infrastructure.
