House passes broadband permitting bills to accelerate infrastructure deployment
(UI) - The U.S. House of Representatives has passed legislation aimed at streamlining federal permitting for broadband infrastructure projects, a move welcomed by the Plastics Pipe Institute (PPI).
The package includes the Expediting Federal Broadband Deployment Reviews Act and the Federal Broadband Deployment Tracking Act, which are designed to improve coordination, transparency and timeliness in federal permitting reviews. The measures aim to reduce delays that can slow infrastructure construction, particularly as states begin deploying funding through federal broadband programs.
PPI officials said permitting inefficiencies remain a key barrier across infrastructure sectors, including communications, water and energy, where projects can face lengthy and unpredictable approval timelines. The group emphasized that improving permitting processes is critical to advancing construction once funding is secured.
The legislation is intended to help projects move more quickly from planning to construction while maintaining environmental and safety protections, supporting broader infrastructure expansion and economic growth.
