ClockSpring Launches New Concrete Solutions Division
ClockSpring|NRI, a manufacturer of engineered products for the repair and rehabilitation of critical infrastructure, acquired Milliken Infrastructure Solutions as its new concrete solutions division.
The former Milliken group provides highly engineered products used to repair, rehabilitate, strengthen and protect critical infrastructure spanning the water and wastewater, oil and gas, industrial and civil sectors. Its robust portfolio of products includes GeoSpray geopolymer mortar, Concrete Cloth GCCM, and fiber-reinforced polymers like RenewWrap, Syntho-Shore and Syntho-Shield.
GeoTree Solutions, the new division’s name, reflects its roots in geopolymer materials and emphasizes its connection to the development
of geotechnical and civil composite infrastructure solution applied to culverts, sewers, slopes, berm and tank containment areas, or civil structure repairs.
Based in Houston, ClockSpring|NRI manufactures high-performance, critical infrastructure construction and repair products, and provides associated engineering support and training services. Its solutions are used to construct, maintain, strengthen, protect, and rehabilitate pipelines, natural gas distribution lines, high-consequence industrial pipework, tanks, storm and sanitation assets, and civil structures.
Vortex Expands Footprint to US Pacific Northwest, Mexico
The Vortex Companies, a trenchless infrastructure solutions provider, acquired the assets of Trenchless Pipe Repairs LLC, a leading trenchless sewer and drain service company based in Sumner, Wash. according to Mike Vellano, CEO of Vortex.
Known as an environmentally friendly service company, Trenchless Pipe Repairs specializes in robotic cutting, cleaning and reinstatement services, cured-in-place lining (CIPP), and trenchless infrastructure management.
The company was founded in 2011, but its owner, Nick Patrick, brings nearly 25 years of trenchless service experience to the Vortex family. His role will evolve into a national and global product manager, focused on promoting and expanding Vortex robotic systems and lining materials.
Vortex Companies also launched Vortex Mexico, a joint venture with Gemex and its subsidiary, Umbral.
The new partnership provides proven and cost-effective trenchless repair solutions to address the massive and aging water, sewer and commercial infrastructure in Mexico. Services range from large-diameter relining of water transmission lines and rehabilitation of leaking manholes, to small-diameter water service lines.
Gemex is an energy-centric business group focused on delivering results in a highly competitive and constantly evolving environment.

Umbral, a leader in sustainable infrastructure solutions, specializes in integrated water cycle projects that make wastewater safe for cities and industries, while providing a reliable discharge outlet to reuse it as industrial grade water.
"We estimate the water distribution network is losing anywhere between 30 percent and 50 percent of its drinking water from leaks, inferior pipe materials and lack of pressure control,” explained Rodrigo Salgado, business development director and general partner of Umbral. “This is a huge problem that needs to be addressed and properly repaired, and Vortex will help us accomplish this."

Christopher Garrett Named NASSCO Technical Advisory Council Chair

Christopher Garrett, vice president of Brown and Caldwell, was selected as chair of the National Association of Sewer Service Companies’ (NASSCO) Technical Advisory Council.
He joins the team of five industry leaders, with a combined 200 years of design, construction and maintenance expertise, that sets the newly formed council’s strategic direction for the benefit of NASSCO members and as a balanced voice for the aging infrastructure industry. The council’s role is to advocate the distribution of timely condition assessment, maintenance and rehabilitation information, aligned with NASSCO’s vision and mission, and consistent with industry best practices.
Garrett has been actively involved with NASSCO since 2002, including training more than 1,500 professionals as part of the association’s Pipeline Assessment Certification Program. His background encompasses over three decades of experience in water and wastewater utility infrastructure evaluation, rehabilitation, design and program management.
Currently, he serves as Brown and Caldwell’s national infrastructure lead, based in the Virginia Beach, Va., office, in addition to co-leading the firm’s aging infrastructure initiative. •
